My name is Lillian. I am one of the mentor teachers that came to work at Corner of Hope in 2010 and I have been working there ever since. I am now the Deputy Head teacher and I work along with Head Teacher Milcah Jerotich.

At the beginning in 2010, we started with more than 200 children who were divided in four groups. Of the four classes, three were in tents and one classroom was made of iron sheets. In those times the circumstances were challenging. We had many children in class, when the wind was too strong the materials were blown away, when it was very sunny it was uncomfortable to be in class and there were no toilets in the camp.
For the future of Corner of Hope, I envision it will serve many children who need quality education. There are so many children out there who are in need of good education. My dream is that I will be able to take care of more children and to guide them in the future, so they will be able to grow into a person who will bring peace in the world.
At first the community did not understand what Montessori education was. We educated them on the Montessori method, and after a while, when they saw the progress of their children, they started appreciating and embracing it.

The most valuable lesson that I have learned during my time at Corner of Hope is that despite any situation or circumstances, if a child is giving the opportunity to learn in an environment that is prepared, the child can do marvellous and is able to grow with their natural energies. Over the years I also realised that the child is the most important person in society, and we need to take care of them, so that in the future the child will become someone who will be able to change the world.
